Name the objects before choosing a network

A study, its code, data and explanation are not interchangeable versions. Identify the reference document, its status and the version actually used. Provide a link that lets readers find the authors and original publication. A social presentation does not turn a hypothesis into an established result or a code repository into scientific validation.

Build a journey between the elements

ResearchGate can be considered for presenting work to a research audience. GitHub may host the technical part of a project with an appropriate repository and permissions. Medium can explain the approach to another audience. These editorial roles can complement one another: connect the elements rather than publishing three summaries that all omit the method and limitations.

Check permissions and versions

Before depositing a file, confirm which version may be shared and under which conditions. Options described by a service do not replace the agreement applying to your work. Separate public data from personal or confidential data. If a file cannot be distributed, provide a verifiable reference and state what is unavailable without inventing general permission.

Test whether the journey can be verified

Ask a reader to find the original work, identify its status, locate the method and understand your summary’s limitations. For a repository, state the version and execution requirements without promising reproduction of every result. Citation information supports attribution; it does not validate scientific quality. Also plan to correct summaries if the study is revised.

Compare roles and documented points

Roles are editorial options. Factual points have specific sources; they are not a complete service verification. The table can scroll horizontally on a small screen.

ResearchGatePresent work and connect it to a research audience.ResearchGate distinguishes public copies from private storage for the author and co-authors; permissions need confirmation. Source for this point ↗Confirm permission to share the file and its version.
GitHubConnect technical material and its version.A repository CITATION.cff file provides citation information; it does not validate the research. Source for this point ↗Document the environment, permissions and citation.
MediumExplain the subject and lead to references. An unlisted story remains accessible through its link; Medium does not offer password protection for a story. Source for this point ↗Present limitations without replacing the publication with its summary.

Choose a trial by task

Readers need to find the study.
Provide its reference, status and version to consult.
Readers need to examine the code or method.
Connect the repository, version and necessary instructions.
Readers are discovering the subject.
Write a cautious explanation leading to the original work.

Fictional example: follow the journey

Fictional example: a team presents a study of a public dataset. It links the original document, technical repository and explanatory article. The repository uses a small authorised example; the summary distinguishes the observed result from what was not tested.

Useful questions

Does a public repository prove reliability?

No. It can make material available for examination. Data quality, method and the scope of results require separate checks.

Is citation information enough?

It supports attribution. Also check that the reference identifies the right version and readers can understand the document’s status.
